EDUCATION

Education is the pillar of our society. It equips us with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform our daily tasks, make informed decisions, and contribute meaningfully to our communities. Education goes beyond individual benefits; it shapes the collective future of District 7. Our focus will be empowering local communities, supporting teachers, and addressing educational disparities while empowering local decision making, limited government intervention, and fiscal responsibility.

CURRENT ISSUES WITH OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM

Low Proficiency Rates
In Alabama, just 31% of students are proficient in math, 41% of students are proficient in science, and 52% of students are proficient in English, according to state standardized assessments.

High Poverty Schools
District 7 includes areas with high poverty levels. Schools in these regions face unique challenges, including limited resources, student support, and teacher recruitment.

Teacher Support and Training
Many educators in Alabama face inadequate resources, professional development, and support.

Maintaining Standards

There is a need for improving accountability to maintain educational standards and effectively track progress and outcomes.

Workforce gaps
District 7 continues to lag behind other districts when it comes to having a specialized and skilled workforce.

MY SOLUTION

Advocating for Local Control of Education
I will cut through the bureaucratic red tape of the Department of Education and direct more resources into classrooms. Parents and teachers should decide what kids need, not a Washington suit.

Investment in Professional Development and Teacher Retention
I will Increase funding for teacher training workshops, conferences, and certifications to ensure educators are well-prepared, and create incentives for experienced teachers to remain in the profession.

Rural Education Initiatives
I will secure federal grants and create targeted efforts to improve educational infrastructure and access in rural communities.

School Counseling Services
We need to increase the number of school counselors to provide emotional support, guidance, and mental health resources for our students. Making sure our children are receiving the right care at school is crucial.

Defending School Choice
I will uphold the right to school choice so parents and students have access to educational options that best fit their needs.

Prioritizing Post-Secondary Choice
Alabama needs to provide practical career training for those who need it. I will strengthen opportunities for Trade Schools, Technical Schools, Community Colleges and Certificate Programs.
