Infrastructure
For far too long, we have ignored our district’s infrastructure, compromising our quality of life and ability to compete in a 21st century economy. We can boost our economy and create local jobs that can’t be outsourced by reinvesting in infrastructure. Robin Litaker will advocate in Congress for an infrastructure plan that produces well-paying employment, links our district to others, strengthens communities, and preserves the environment.
current infrastructure issues
Aging Roadways
Across Alabama, many roads are considered to be in poor condition. In the 7th District, this is evidenced by frequent complaints of potholes and insufficient road maintenance, especially in more rural areas, which affects the daily commute and poses safety risks.
Inadequate Public Transportation
Public transportation in Alabama is limited, with significant gaps in rural accessibility. In the 7th District, the lack of comprehensive public transport services restricts mobility for those without private vehicles, impacting access to jobs, healthcare, and education.
Water System Challenges
Water infrastructure issues are prevalent in many rural American communities. In the 7th District, particularly in the Black Belt region, there are recurring problems with water quality and reliability, often due to aging pipelines and treatment facilities that are not up to modern standards.
Limited Access to Broadband
Statewide, a considerable percentage of rural areas lack high-speed broadband. In the 7th District, about 38% of rural areas are without adequate internet service, which hampers residents’ access to digital services and economic opportunities.
Sewage System Failures
Broadly, rural areas in the U.S. struggle with aging sewage systems. Specifically, in Uniontown within the 7th District, the sewage system has experienced over 150 reported overflows since 2004.
MY SOLUTION
Make America Energy Independent
Invest in energy projects to reduce dependence on foreign sources and enhance national security.
Rural Road Repairs
Poor road conditions in the 7th District, especially in rural areas, impact daily commutes and safety. I will work hard to secure federal funds that can address these issues.
Public-Private Partnerships for Transit Solutions
Creating transit solutions through public-private partnerships will enhance transportation options where the government falls short.
Securing Funding for Rural Growth
Federal grants will support the development of comprehensive infrastructure and transit services, improving access to jobs, healthcare, and education for rural communities.
Federal Investments for Water Infrastructure
Upgrading water systems will address quality and reliability issues caused by aging infrastructure. Modernizing sewage systems, especially across the black belt, will address the crumbling sewage infrastructure.
